Through data visualization, the creator is communicating their interpretation of the data. Data visualization can be used to make data more accessible to a broad range of people. How the data is represented will depend on your audience and your purpose for sharing the data.

 

Data visualization helps to tell stories by curating data into a form easier to understand, highlighting the trends and outliers. A good visualization tells a story, removing the noise from data and highlighting useful information.

Types of data visualization

There are many different types of data visualizations. They can be categorized by chart type (table, map, pie chart, Venn diagram, etc.). They can also be categorized by purpose (or the story you want to tell) such as progression (timeline), correlation (scatterplots), hierarchy (family tree, structure of an organization.
