Circulation Policies

Borrowing Materials

You are welcome to use the library and its resources but in order to check-out materials, you must be one of the following and have an active Goucher ID or a current Goucher Library Card*:

  • Current Goucher student, faculty (including emeriti), staff, or trustee.
  • Goucher alumnae/i
  • Community Borrower ($50 annual fee)
  • Member of an institution whose library is part of the reciprocal borrowing agreements 

* Library cards may be obtained between the hours of 9am and 4pm at the Library Service Desk.  Please be aware, that you must have a card prior to checking items out.

Basic Lending Policies


Goucher College students and staff may enjoy reciprocal borrowing privileges with the following institutions listed below - links are to the library homepage:

Capitol Technology University, Hood College, Loyola/Notre Dame, McDaniel College, MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art), Morgan State University, Mount St. Mary's University, St. John's CollegeStevenson University, Towson University, University of Maryland Baltimore County, University of Baltimore, Washington Adventist University, and Washington College.

Please remember you are borrowing materials directly from these libraries. It is your responsibility to understand and observe the policies of the library owning the material. Fines and other charges will be payable to the library owning the material.

Course Reserves

Faculty: Please see our course reserve guidelines before submitting requests to put items on reserve.


Any circulating item may be recalled for the use of another patron, or for course reserves.

Non-Circulating Materials

Rare books, Goucher College archives, microforms, periodicals, reference series, and fragile books generally must be used in the library. 

Fines and Fees

Charges for overdue and lost books may be applied to your Library and Student Billing Accounts. Charges will vary depending upon the material in question.  Overdue fees range from 50 cents per day for recalled items to $15 flat fee for an overdue item.  Lost billing charges include a $15 processing fee as well as a replacement cost.

Electronic equipment such as Kindles or iPads are not automatically charged, please ensure that you check the charge prior to using.  A power cord and wall plug are included with each unit.
