Goucher College's world class Jane Austen Collection includes first, rare, and unique editions of Austen’s novels; translations in over 40 languages; works by Austen’s contemporaries; and a significant collection of color-plate books of the Regency period by the likes of Humphry Repton and Thomas Roslandson. Alberta Hirshheimer Burke (Goucher class of 1928) donated her Jane Austen collection to the college's library in 1975. In 1998, Barbara Winn Adams added over 300 volumes to the collection. Through funding provided by the Burkes and donations from various members of the community, the collection continues to grow.
The Jane Austen Collection is held in the Special Collections & Archives Department at the Goucher College Library. Please visit that website for information on making an appointment, location, hours, and contact information. The collection is not on permanent display, but is available for research purposes and occasional viewings.
