Jane Austen at Goucher College

Goucher College's world class Jane Austen Collection includes first, rare, and unique editions of Austen’s novels; translations in over 40 languages; works by Austen’s contemporaries;  and a significant collection of English color-plate books of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.  Alberta Hirshheimer Burke (Goucher class of 1928) donated her Jane Austen collection to the college's library in 1975.  In 1998, Barbara Winn Adams added over 300 volumes to the collection. Through funding provided by the Burkes and donations from members of the community, the collection continues to grow.  More information on the history of the collection and Albert Burke may be found under the "About" tab.
