eScholarship@Goucher

eScholarship@Goucher is an institutional repository based on open access that enables Goucher College Library to collect and preserve Goucher College’s scholarly output.

Author's Rights

When you submit items to eScholarship@Goucher the author retains the copyright for all works submitted. Authors agree to the eScholarship@Goucher license (see below) and grant Goucher College a non-exclusive right to retain, preserve, and provide access to your material. The term “non-exclusive” means that you retain all copyright to your work and you can still enter into agreements with others granting them rights to use your material.

You can submit items that have been published in other publications, but you need to review your agreement with the publisher.  If you transferred all rights to the publisher, you may need their permission to submit to eScholarship@Goucher.  Sherpa Romeo is a searchable database of publisher policies about copyright.

For any questions or help with copyright, please contact eScholarship@goucher.edu

Creative Common License

The MD-SOAR consortium has added the ability to select a Creative Commons license during the submission process.  A Creative Commons license enables the free distribution of an otherwise copyrighted work. Every license helps creators retain copyright while allowing others to copy, distribute, and make some uses of their work non-commercially. Every Creative Commons license also ensures creators get the credit for their work they deserve.

By selecting a Creative Commons license you are letting people know how they can use the work that you are submitting to eScholarship@Goucher as well as how they should give you attribution.  You can always choose to not select a Creative Commons license. Below is a chart, developed by Frostburg University Librarian Annamarie Klose-Hrubes, that explains the various Creative Commons licenses.

Embargo Items

Authors who wish to place an embargo on their materials should speak with their program director and contact eScholarship@Goucher.edu prior to submitting their works. While the item itself will not appear in eScholarship@Goucher, its title, abstract, keywords, publication date, and author name will still be available in the repository.

Once an item is embargoed it will appear only to the author of the item when logged in with his/her unique credentials. It will not be available elsewhere.

Withdrawing Items

If an item ever needs to be withdrawn, a request for removal should be directed to eScholarship@Goucher.edu and include the reasons for withdrawal. Since the goal of eScholarship@Goucher is to provide persistent long-term access to content, original item records are retained and displayed to users. The record will then contain the following statement:  Item removed from eScholarship@Goucher on [date].

Please refer to the withdrawal guidelines for more information.

Distribution License

The text of the eScholarship@Goucher distribution license:

By signing and submitting this agreement, I grant the Goucher College a no cost, nonexclusive, right and license to include the scholarly material identified below in the Digital Repository MD-SOAR, or another Digital Repository system that the College may in the future utilize in the place of MD-SOAR, and through the Digital Repository, to reproduce, publicly display and distribute the material at no cost to users world-wide provided the College does not alter the content of the material. I understand that if I wish to publish the material with a third party that requires me to assign to it all my rights in the material, I may direct the College to remove the material from the Digital Repository. In such an event, I understand that a bibliographic reference to the material will be retained in the Digital Repository, but the material will be removed to a "dark archive" that is not publicly accessible. I represent that I am the sole or joint owner of the entire copyright in the material or, to the extent that I do not hold copyright in any part of the material, that I have written authority from the owner of copyright to grant this license to Goucher College. If the material is based on work that was sponsored or supported by an agency or entity other than Goucher College, I represent that I complied with any requirements the sponsor may have imposed on publication including a right of review or inclusion of an acknowledgement of its support.

This agreement will be interpreted and governed in accordance with applicable Federal law and the laws of the State of Maryland without reference to its conflict of laws rules.
