Campus Policy

In order to comply with the Copyright Revision Act of 1976, library rooms may be scheduled for a group film viewing only in connection with face-to-face teaching activities, with the professor present. For a fuller discussion of this issue, please see ALA Library Fact Sheet Number 7.

The Classroom Technology Blog has a complete list of campus classrooms with technology for video viewing.

For Faculty

Faculty can use the following rooms in the Athenaeum to show VHS tapes/DVDs in class:

  • Athenaeum 322 (not multi-standard)
  • Athenaeum 426 - Pinkard (not multi-standard)

Note that the library no longer accepts VHS as a reserve item.  If you need assistance in obtaining a DVD for class use, please let us know in advance.

For Students

Students can use the following rooms in the Athenaeum to view a DVD that is on reserve:

  • Athenaeum 342  (multi-region player with VHS)
  • Athenaeum 435

External DVD players are also available for a 24-hour Reserve checkout at the Library Service Desk.
