Borrowing Materials
All materials must be checked out at the Service Desk. Patrons must present their Goucher ID cards or library-issued borrowing card. Borrowers are cautioned not to allow others to use their cards, because the owner of the card will be responsible for all transactions and fees charged to it.

Everyone is welcome to use the library and its resources but in order to check out materials, you must be one of the following:

  • Current Goucher student, faculty (including emeriti), staff, or trustee.
  • Goucher alumna/us
  • Community Borrower ($50 annual fee)
  • Member of a BALC or MICUA institution (see colleges below)
Goucher College library patrons may enjoy reciprocal borrowing privileges with the following institutions listed below - links are to the library homepage:

Course Reserves
Students: Please click here to check for the titles of items on reserve for your course, before asking our Service Desk staff to look for them on the reserves shelves.
Faculty: Please see our course reserve guidelines before submitting requests to put items on reserve.

Recalls
Any circulating item may be recalled for the use of another patron, or for course reserves.

Non-Circulating Materials
Rare books, Goucher College archives, microforms, periodicals, reference series, and fragile books generally must be used in the library.

Fines and Fees
Charges for overdue and lost books may be applied to your Library and Student Billing Accounts. Charges will vary depending upon the material in question.  Overdue fees range from 50 cents per day for recalled items to $15 flat fee for an overdue item.  Lost billing charges include a $15 processing fee as well as a replacement cost.

Located on the main floor, the Circulation Department provides access to the main book collections and to items on reserve in Goucher College Library. Circulation also shelves returned books, locates missing books, and recalls books checked out to other users. At the Circulation Desk, you may check books out, return or renew books, pay fines, and ask for help in locating books.
